Question: Are Rockland’s goals for renewable energy and carbon neutrality consistent with the State’s goals?

In the State’s Climate Action Plan “Maine Won’t Wait” the following goals are identified:

  • Decrease greenhouse gas emissions by 45% by 2030 and 80% by 2050
  • Achieve carbon neutrality by 2045

In 2019, Rockland committed to:

  1. By 2025, the City of Rockland will obtain 100% of municipal electricity from renewable sources.
  2. By 2045, the entire community of Rockland will be carbon neutral.
