  • Two Centuries of Maine Shipbuilding: A Talk by Nathan Lipfert

Join us for an afternoon celebrating the history of Maine shipbuilding! Historian Nathan Lipfert will offer a presentation highlighting shipbuilding activity in the centuries following statehood and covering the entire coast, examining both the vital role the industry has played both in Maine’s economic and social histories and its continuing relevance to national security. A Q&A session will follow the presentation.

Nathan Lipfert is Curator Emeritus at the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath, where he worked from 1971 to 2017 in various curatorial capacities. He studied at Hofstra University, Vermont College of Norwich University, and the National Archives Institute. A nautical and maritime historian, he has written extensively on the subject. He lives in Woolwich, Maine.
