Virtual Talk: Fact, Fiction and Fandom: the Virtual reality of Late Medieval Rymes of Robin Hood”
Sarah Harlan-Haughey will present “Fact, Fiction and Fandom: the virtual reality of late medieval Rymes of Robin Hood” via Zoom on Thursday, November 12 at 6:30 PM. This talk will introduce the audience to the lively tradition of late medieval “rymes” about Robin Hood and other outlaws. We will then explore the ways in which the virtual world of the outlaw tradition overlaid and influenced real life, politics, and art in the 14th and 15th century in England. Then as now, popular culture mattered, and it changed the way people experienced their world.
Sarah Harlan-Haughey is Associate Professor of English at the University of Maine. Author of The Ecology of The English Outlaw and articles on Old Norse, Old English, and Middle English literature, she is an ecocritic and folklorist. Her current book projects explore late medieval outlaw material and the Arthurian author Lawman’s necropastoral poetics.
