Virtual Concert with Davis Duo
Josie and Sophie Davis will perform a virtual violin concert for Rockland Public Library, featuring a range of styles including classical, jazz and folk, on Thursday, July 23rd at 2pm. The Davis sisters grew up in Waldoboro and have recently returned to Maine where they are committed to teaching and performing music throughout the Midcoast area, both as a duo and as members of Halcyon, a Maine-based string quartet dedicated to cultivating an appreciation and awareness of the natural world and climate change. In 2017, Sophie Davis was awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student Research Grant to spend nine months in Samoa, where she explored the ways in which the arts can raise awareness of climate change. In addition to pursuing research, Sophie taught and performed with the National Orchestra of Samoa. Josie Davis has studied at the Juilliard String Quartet Seminar, Bowdoin International Music Festival and Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival. She is committed to creating more chamber music opportunities for young people and is the founder and director of summer workshops for young people in Maine and Connecticut. The concert will be presented via the Zoom platform.
