Introduction to Beekeeping
Led by Knox Lincoln County Beekeepers Peter Lammert of Thomaston and Jean Vose of Nobleboro. A beehive in the garden ensures a good seed crop and fresh honey for the table. This program provides information about honey bees including a history of honey bees in North America. It includes basic information on bee biology, kinds of bees in the hive and their role, a look inside the hive and how to get started. In addition, techniques are given on how to promote and attract bees in your yard and garden. This will include suggestions for providing food sources for these bees. After the slide show presentation and questions, there follows a hands-on demonstration with the group led by Lammert. In addition, there are handouts and an observation hive of live bees for viewing.
