  • Protecting and Preserving Wabanaki Basketmaking Traditions Threatened by the Emerald Ash Borer

Darren Ranco of the Penobscot Nation

Part of the World in Your Library Series. How will the arrival of the Emerald Ash Borer impact Wabanaki Basket-making traditions in the State of Maine? Join us for a presentation by Darren Ranco, PhD, Associate Professor of Anthropology and Chair of Native American Programs at the University of Maine and citizen/member of the Penobscot Nation to explore this topic. He will discuss work that he and a team of research partners have been doing since 2009 to prepare for the arrival of the Emerald Ash Borer, and what the future of Wabanaki basketmaking looks like given this very serious threat.
