    Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day will take place on Saturday, August 17, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
    The drop-off location will be:
    Rockland Transfer Station, 400 Limerock Street, Rockland.

    Please note: Hazardous waste drop-off is made available by the City of Rockland for Rockland Residents Only.
    A transfer station sticker or proof of residency is required.

    1 Unit is allowed per resident for free.
    Additional waste is $25/unit*
    *Latex paint/architectural finishes are free and do not count towards the unit.

    How much is a unit?
    A unit is 5 gallons or 20 pounds of hazardous waste. For example: 1 unit could be a 5-gallon bucket of rubber cement or a collection of several smaller containers of chemicals, such as a gallon of paint thinner, a small bag of dry pesticide, and a few old aerosol cans.

    Hazardous Waste Example List:

    • All Paints, Oil/Alkyd, and now latex! (5 gallon- or smaller original containers)
    • Stains, Thinners, Paint Strippers
    • Solvents (e. g. Acetone), Varnishes
    • Adhesives, rubber cement
    • Waste Fuels, (Gas, Diesel, Mixed gas)
    • Engine Degreaser, Brake Fluid
    • Antifreeze
    • Oil – Waste Oil, Hydraulic Oil, etc…
    • Pesticides: Poisons, Insecticides, Weed Killers, Moth Balls.
    • Hobby Supplies, Artist Supplies
    • Photography Chemicals, Chem. Sets
    • Cleaners (oven, ammonia based), Drain Openers, Spot Removers.
    • Swimming Pool Chemicals
    • Aerosol Cans (No Empty Containers)
    • Driveway Sealers (Oil base only)
    • Old Fire Extinguishers
    • Compressed Gas Cylinders
    • Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Detectors

    What NOT to Bring

    • Asbestos: Call ME Dept of Environmental Protection at 1-800-452-1942. OR EPI at 786-7390
    • Commercial or Industrial Waste: Call ME Dept. of Environmental Protection at 1-800-452-1942 or EPI at 1-877- 846-0447
    • Infectious & Biological Waste: Call your local Hospital for instructions on how to dispose
    • PCB ballasts, thermometers & thermostats
