The shade provided by street trees helps to cool the air and the pavement on hot summer days. Street trees also help reduce stormwater runoff, provide habitat for birds and pollinators, and improve air and water quality.

How does this program work?
Program applications were available in Spring 2025. Applications are now closed and trees have been planted.
- Interested Rockland residents completed a brief program application.
- A limited number of trees were available. Residents selected to have a street tree planted in front of their house were notified by the Public Services Department.
- In the Spring, young trees were planted by the Public Services Department in the public right of way, in front of participating residences.
- Residents received care instructions from the Rockland Tree Board and water the tree for two years as it establishes roots.
The City’s Public Services Department planted the trees, all participants have to do is water it for the first two years (May through October) to help it grow!
This program is made possible thanks to a generous donation of trees from Plants Unlimited and has been developed in partnership with the Rockland Tree Board.
