The History of Station Maine, with Muriel Curtis
Muriel Curtis will share stories and photos about the history and current work of Station Maine in Rockland. After teaching music, English, and social studies in the public school system, Muriel spent ten years under sail, during which she became one of the first women in the country to earn a USCG 100 ton Aux Sail Captain’s license. Her passion for teaching and the sea has manifested in Station Maine, an organization of community members dedicated to offering boating opportunities, at no cost, to youth of all ages in the Midcoast Maine area. Under Muriel’s direction, Station Maine has been offering experiential education opportunities and fostering the preservation of the traditional skills of the sea since 2001.
